Okay, I never profess to be some kind of Spanish genius, but I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the language. I can speak well enough to be understood by most people and I have always understood more than I spoke. Until I came to Honduras. I have NO IDEA what it is about this accent that leaves me feeling like someone’s grandmother but I do! I’m constantly asking people to repeat themselves and still not catching it the second or sometimes third time. And I’m either going deaf, or everyone here is incredibly soft-spoken. Thank God I decided to take Spanish lessons here because even if I don’t learn a single new grammar point, at least it will help get more accustomed to the Honduran accent!
